True Colours

On January 11, 2025, Youth For Christ (YFC) Western Australia gathered for the very first Cluster Prayer Assembly (CPA) of the year, bringing together members from different YFC chapters of WA. The event was a strong start to 2025, filled with fun, faith, freedom and friendship.

The CPA was hosted by Elisha and Isaac (both from South Chapter), who guided everyone through the program with energy and enthusiasm. To set the tone for the night, we kicked off with an exciting game led by Grace (from Southwest Chapter), which brought laughter and camaraderie among the YFCs.

The atmosphere then shifted into a time of prayer as Jeril (from North Chapter), alongside the YFC South Chapter Music Ministry, led everyone into praise and worship, allowing us to surrender our hearts to God and prepare for the afternoon’s activities.

Joining in the First Fruits Offering

As part of the Cluster Assembly, YFC members briefly joined their parents in the adjacent church, where the Couples For Christ (CFC) community was holding their own Cluster Prayer Assembly to start the year with a First Fruits Offering. Those YFCs whose parents were not part of CFC joined their titos and titas in their offering, creating a beautiful moment of unity and belongingness across our community.

The highlight of the prayer assembly was the talk titled “True Colours”, delivered by Sharie (South Chapter Leader). (A summary of the talk will be shared later in this article.) Her words encouraged YFC members to reflect on their faith and recognize their true identity as children of God.

Following the talk, YFC members were grouped according to their households for a time of reflection. Each person was asked to express love and appreciation for their groupmates by writing something positive about them. As the papers were passed around, it became a meaningful way to affirm one another and recognize the image of God in each person.

After the sharing session, we took a moment to celebrate our January birthday celebrants: Ella, Carlos, Levi, Vince, Ethan Julia, and Josiah. The room was filled with joy as Lance (South Chapter Leader) prayed-over the celebrants and we honoured them and thanked God for the gift of life.

To conclude the activities for the afternoon, Lance continued with the closing prayer, wrapping up the assembly in gratitude and hope. But it didn’t end there—everyone stayed back for fellowship, sharing food, laughter, and meaningful conversations, strengthening the bonds within our YFC family.

The first Cluster Prayer Assembly of 2025 was truly a blessed and spirit-filled gathering, setting the tone for a year of growth, faith, and community. We can’t wait for what God has in store for YFC Western Australia in the months ahead.

And to further enrich our insights of this assembly’s topic, here’s a summary of the talk presented by Sharie, ‘True Colours,’ which reminds us of our true identity and purpose in God.”

True Colours: Understanding Our Identity in Christ

Introduction

We all have a perception of ourselves, which is shaped by the ever-changing standards of the world. These external pressures lead us to seek love and validation in places that ultimately don’t satisfy us in the long run. Despite our best efforts—whether it’s excelling in grades, accumulating wealth, or improving our appearance—we always feel like it’s not enough. The root cause of this dissatisfaction is that we forget who we really are and, most importantly, forget God’s standards. The beauty of God’s love is that it’s unconditional; we don’t need to meet any worldly standard to receive His love. The key is not doing things for God, but being with Him, remembering our true value in Him.

Our Human Nature (Man’s Dignity as a Person)

Human beings are created in the image and likeness of God, meaning, that each of us holds inherent value and significance. This is not just about physical appearance but the special qualities embedded in each of us. Our dignity stems from God, which makes humans more superior than any other creatures. While we may never match God’s perfection, the fact that we carry a part of Him in us elevates our value. This divine likeness is what makes us unique and precious in God’s eyes, regardless of our physical appearance or abilities.

Our True Worth

Our true worth does not come from material possessions, talents, or achievements; instead, it comes from being created in God’s image. Each person, regardless of race, background, or success, is valuable and deserving of love and acceptance. God loves us even without our accomplishments. Our self-worth is not measured by our achievements but by the fact that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. While we should strive to do our best and glorify God in all we do, we should also remember that God’s love for us is not based on our performance, and our worth remains constant regardless of our actions or mistakes.

Our True Calling

Our ultimate calling in life is simple: to love. Regardless of the career path we choose or the degrees we pursue, the core purpose remains to love God and others. As beings created out of love, we are equipped with the capacity to love and invite others into that same love. The three types of love—Philia (brotherly love), Eros (romantic love), and Agape (Christian love)—reflect different aspects of this calling, with the highest form being Agape. Whether in celibacy (for the priests and nuns who received the sacrament of Holy Orders) or marriage, true love is about a lifelong commitment to giving oneself fully to others and to God, even through challenges and difficulties.

Love of God and Neighbour

The two greatest commandments are to love God and love our neighbours. If we claim to love God, we must also love those around us, even those who may have wronged us. True love for God is demonstrated through our willingness to forgive others and reach out in compassion. We cannot claim to love God while harbouring grudges or failing to forgive. To live in God’s love is to extend that love and forgiveness to others, mirroring God’s grace in our relationships and actions.

Conclusion

We will never meet the world’s standards, but to God, we are already enough. God’s love does not depend on our achievements or appearance. The key is to remember that we are loved for who we are, not for what we do. Our calling is to love—both God and others—in a way that honours Him. Let us live out our true colours by embracing the love that God has for us and extending that love to the world around us.
